Gather the ingredients. To start, place the blood orange on the cutting board and use a paring knife to peel the exterior. You'll need about 3 large peels
Slice the blood oranges in half. Use the handheld juicer over a bowl to squeeze out the blood oranges from these halves. You'll need about 1/2 cup or 91 grams of blood orange
In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, add the blood orange juice, orange peels, regular orange juice, star anise, cinnamon stick, ground cinnamon, and sugar. Bring mixture to a boil until sugar dissolves
Reduce heat to a simmer and add the cranberries. Simmer on medium heat for 10 minutes approximately. Stir and remove from heat.OPTIONAL: Once the cranberries begin to pop (about 5 minutes into the simmer), you can gather a few tablespoons of liquid (about 1/4 cup) with a spoon and scoop the liquid into a bowl for a simple syrup. We have a drink we think you'll like coming up!
We recommend chilling for at least 2 hours. Before serving, remove spices and peels. Enjoy!
