One of the most incredible things I’ve learned from being with Adam is about self-respect in a relationship. Before we had no contact, I was always a go-with-the-flow person, and I did not have as many boundaries. 

I realize that’s what caused much of the pain that I had experienced early on in our relationship. Before you enter into a relationship with someone else, ensure you have a good relationship with yourself. One that involves self-respect.

The backbone of any healthy and fulfilling partnership is self-respect. It guides individuals to emotional well-being and mutual respect by anchoring individuals in their values and beliefs. It empowers one to set boundaries, avoid codependency and helps to shield against toxicity, elements that help maintain positive relationship dynamics.

Notably, self-respect in relationships paves the way for values-based decision-making. When individuals align with their true selves, resentment can be avoided, and a relationship of substance and respect can thrive.

Self-respect involves recognizing and upholding your intrinsic worth, values, and boundaries. So treat yourself with kindness and esteem; this will set the stage for how you treat others and expect to be treated in return. Mastering self-awareness will help you make decisions that align closely with your core beliefs.
